Canada is something to cheer about

Wow. A same-sex wedding on a military base.

I love this country. National pride isn't something that's on my mind a whole lot, but I've got it now.

don't forget that in 2001 the 15th Field Regimental Army Band (based in Vancouver) played a joint concert with the Rainbow Concert Band (Canada's only Gay and Lesbian Concert Band) at Christchurch Cathedral called "Sounds like Freedom". This was the first joint concert of its kind in North America.

Initially the army band was told by their superiors that it wasn't politically wise for them to do the concert and that they wouldn't be officially allowed to do it. The army band suggested back to the higher-ups that they'd be quite happy to do the concert without pay but that they were going to do it. So the higher-ups relented and the army band did the concert with pay and with us.

Of course, nobody else in the world noticed, but it was still pretty cool.

I like how the chaplain didn't compromise his beliefs by performing the ceremony himself, but made all the necessary arrangements.

No really, I do think that it's cool. I admire integrity, and he satisfiedhis beliefs but still did his job. That was damn narrow line, but he still managed to walk it. Good on him!
