Working a 16 hour day today. Woo!

Yesterday I welcomed a few new books to my collection. I'm currently reading Crunchy Cons, which is about conservatives who fall outside the mainstream, and feel that the Republican Party has fallen away from its conservative roots. Apparently, the author wrote a column about a conversation he had with a National Review colleague who responded to ( Read more... )

That's very interesting, I wish people would be more open instead of discrediting a thought simply because it's "left" or "right".

Agreed. If the worst you can say about an idea is that it is "so right-wing/leftie", you either regard politics as a team sport or you don't have a strong grasp of the issue at hand.

From the quotes, this author sounds like my father.

Sometime after my childhood, when feminism had a label and a modern definition, I realized my dad had been extremely liberal and openminded in raising children, including all the things he introduced me to so I'd know what they were (from books to sports events).

Though we mocked him for years for voting for Goldwater.

*salutes dad*

Your dad sounds great. My parents were always pretty friendly to feminist ideals, but they were both raised by (essentially) single women, so that's got to factor in.

oh! that book, yeah it was really popular for a couple weeks. Sadly, though mostly lefties seem to have been interested. Whereas, the REAL conservatives show up and buy Ann Coulter's latest. *sigh*

Still, I'm glad a bunch of mainstream conservatives are sticking their heads up and waiving hi.

sorry, I meant to say, really popular for a couple of weeks at work, which means a really big deal for a non-big deal NY Times bestseller book.

In that case, I'm happy for the author and hope that he takes that as encouragement to get the moderate (or, as I think of it, more genuinely conservative) POV out there.

Yeah, I kind of got the impression that only lefties and moderates would be interested, but still!

...the REAL conservatives show up and buy Ann Coulter's latest. *sigh*

You know, there are a lot of positions that I disagree with, but an admiration for/agreement with Ann Coulter is one of the things most likely to make me write of someone's opinion.

If/when I find some insightful points in the book, I shall quote them! Sadly, I have been and will be working sucky shifts for the next few days. Woe.
