Aw, I feel bad being the first comment when I don't have anything really life-changing to say. But I loved this--and especially the last paragraph (grumpy man in an improbably orange fleece heeee!!)--to death!

Never feel bad! Plus, you used the icon of INFINITE CUTENESS THAT SLAYS ME DED, so it's all good.

Hee, I loved that part too. Thanks dearie!

Thank you! I loved that, too; I hope I conveyed enough of the 'radical change, here!' effect I was hoping for!

Oh my god. You have no idea how much I love this. Ironically, not so much for your Sheppard (although, duh, he's beautiful) as for your Antarctica and your parallel lines of the desert and the ice. There's something quiet and contained here, just waiting to burst out in splendor, and we're at the cusp and you captured that perfectly. I mean, your first paragraph - it's a thing of beauty. I love the sense of purity. I was thinking about this recently, see, when I was writing a fic that had a section on Antarctica, and I didn't get into it much there, but the way you describe it and what it says to John - I had something like this in my head, only you, you wrote it, and the promise in its frozen moment makes me so happy. Also, I'm friending you. :-)

Oh, thanks so much! I think that paragraph is quite possibly my favorite I've ever written, so your feedback means the world to me right now. I think I know how you feel about Sheppard and Antarctica--I just got this huge bubble of intensity of feeling when I was trying to describe it, and I knew it needed to be a short fic! I almost mourned not to do a whole piece just on how he feels about it there.

It was really, really important to me to convey a bit of why John loves it there. Plus, the image of lines in the sand/snow but not in the air just... yeah. Thank you so much for your words, they mean a ton, and I'm friending you back! Yay!

Oh John! That last paragraph is really lovely, and I love the idea of John in a holding pattern until suddenly there's that shift-something that I think elli has realized so interestingly in the art. And, of course, we know all about the whole wonderful-terrible adventure waiting for him!

Thank you! I loved that paragraph, but I worried a bit that it felt a bit pasted on. The point was that everything changes at that moment, and John's not ready for it, not that it does him any good... heh.

I love her art for this--it's like distilling the essence of it all and watching the shapes and colors of his experiences and resulting emotions move behind them.

Hee! Yes. He has no idea, does he!
