Lady A Day 028: Marilyn Monroe

If I were better at this, I would give you ladies on significant dates, like Marilyn's birthday or something, but I guess I'm just not a planner.

Marilyn Monroe.  What has not already been said about Marilyn? ......  Yeah, okay, nothing.  BUT.  I figure if I can include animated sea witches in my Lady-A-Days, then I can include a few luminaries who ( Read more... )

One of my fave movies is All About Eve and the first time I saw it, a cute blonde came on my screen and I was all, whah? And it was Marilyn. And she had maybe 2 seconds of screentime but was captivating in those two seconds and even distracted me a little from Celeste Holm, who is my true love among the '50s movie stars.

I don't really know much about Marilyn Monroe. I've never particularly considered myself a fan. I don't even know which of her films I've seen.

But. I love what you wrote about her--what she represents, what she has that so few female celebrities have these days... Just in the two photos you posted, I see a tummy roll *and* thighs that touch. It's sad to realize how greatly our cultural definition of beauty has changed in such a short time. Yet, it's also inspiring to see these photos and be reminded that it hasn't always been about starvation diets, plastic surgery, and botox. Yay for Marilyn and all other real women.

Isn't she just undeniably gorgeous, "flaws" and all? I think what she said was very true. It's the imperfections that are beautiful. Too bad pop culture is always trying to convince us of the opposite.

A good intro to funny Marilyn is Some Like It Hot.
