New icon

Thanks to unclekage for reminding me what day this is. Sixty years ago our marines took Iwo Jima and the famous picture my new icon is based on was taken on this day, 1945.

I'm glad folks remember Iwo, though I'd prefer some of them remembered Saipan as well, where my uncle fought.

He did go to Iwo after the fighting ended, though, and was getting ready for Operation Olympic (his unit was going to be in the first wave -- can you say 'suicide mission'?).

But still, yes, do remember the sacrifices so many men made for this generation. Semper Fidelis!
