You were HOW close to a feeding bear?

I got to see the off-exhibit polar bear enclosures at the San Diego Zoo this morning. They rarely take groups back there because the space is really tiny, but I pulled some strings with my connections as a major donor and it was arranged for me and a few friends ( Read more... )

Eeee, giraffe lips!!

And wow, those necks. Looks like the enclosure isn't that much of a barrier... interesting looking passers-by might get nibbled on. :)

That was behind the main enclosure, not the side that visitors usually see from. The front of the enclosure is open without a fence, just a ditch that the Giraffes can't cross. Plenty of distance between them and and the passers-by. ;)

The younger one would reach its tongue through the bars because it wasn't tall enough to reach over the top. It was fun.

Looks like you had an awesome time. They fed the tigers the same way when John took folks for his birthday. Glad you had a good one!

I remember that. The difference is that the Tiger was pretty voracious, but the bear looked like a big puppy dog waiting for her treat ;)
