How many people attend Estrella? And they do make in-tent propane heaters where you don't have to worry about gas. I've been meaning to pick one up for Pennsic, as those nights can get just about as cold, depending on the year.
I heard attendance was down to about 3,500 this year (normally 5,000 to 7,000) because last year's mud-soup was gawd-awful. Things were only bad Tuesday this year, from what I heard... and the lower attendance meant that having half the parking area unusable until friday when it dried up enough to drive on, wasn't as big a problem as it sounds

I haven't tried them myself, but I'm thinking of getting one for Pennsic.
And I chuckle at the juxtaposition of "this place is huge" and parking being a mere 1/4 mile away, when Pennsic is ~15,000 people and you need to ride a shuttle bus to get across site. :)
It's all relative... It's huge compared to Potrero War, which is on about half the real estate footprint as Estrella. This year's Estrella could have fit in Potrero's site because of the lower attendance.
I don't know if I will ever have the nerve to go to Pennsic... That's just insane -- 10 days of fighting over nearly 3 weeks of camping!?! Not to mention that it's so far away that driving it is out of the question... and there's only so much camping gear you can take on a plane.
That pen-blank idea is a good one! I don't know anyone supplying Avacado wood for woodworkers except chopped and bundled as firewood, which surprises the heck out of me with the abundance of dead trees out here from the freeze two years ago.
Argh...I really wanted to go, especially since Estrella might as well be in my backyard, but being unemployed and still not getting unemployment, I just couldn't justify the expense. -:(

Or maybe just cut out half a billion pen blanks and sell them on eBay.
