PsychoCat walks on a leash. Not around the neighborhood, but if we're going to the vet or something he reacts better on the leash than in a carrier. I always get a big reaction whenever I take him out!

I couldn't take Jesse to the vet on a leash. They have a very strict "Cats in carriers only" policy. Which, I don't think is very fair.

I had some limited success training Phill to walk on a leash. I saw a guy who had his Abyssinian trained on a leash, and he recommended starting by walking along a house or fence, because that's how cats normally walk. That helped a lot...

Well, that's what it seems we're doing, although it's not deliberate. He always wants to walk in narrow, dark, spaces, preferably late at night. It's interesting.

When we bought our cat the breeder told us that another one she'd sold used to be leash-walked - until the council banned her from the park! I mean, wtf! Dogs are allowed, and cats off-leash can't be told not to go in there, so why?! I'd have liked ours to be leash trained for if we had to go away and needed to stop to give them air, but we never did - they're outside cats anyway so it wouldn't be necessary most of the time. I think it's pretty cool though!

That's nuts. I would understand if she took the cat to a dog park, but it was just a park, right?

If I were her, I'd be pissed.

But, at the rate we're progressing, I figure I'll be able to walk Jesse to the park (which is 1/4 of a mile from my house) some time around 2012.

LOL! Just in time for the Olympics then ;o)

Yeah, just a park. We don't have dog parks here (had to look them up when I saw them on Cesar Millan!)

you should take Goten to a park filled with children...and let them try to pet him ;-)

I would love to do that. The problem is that Goten doesn't like to be outdoors.

My dad has threatened to put a leash on Conaire and walk him around outside. I have told him that he is welcome to do so, and that when he is standing at the bottom of a tree with the leash in hand and Conaire stuck up it, I will be waiting with a camera.

So far, I haven't had Jesse try to climb a tree. He has, however, been most upset that I won't chase behind him as he hunts birds.

If your father does decide to walk Conaire on a leash, you have to be there with a video camera. Seriously.
