And still I torture myself with three little furballs

People often find this hard to believe, but I did not grow up with cats. There were cats on my street, but my family were dog people. When I was born, we had a dog named Tippy. Tippy was a boarder collie and a sweet dog. Before Tippy, my parents had a cat named Jinx, which I think is a bad name for cats, because Jinx got hung on his own collar ( Read more... )

The thing with books about cats is, they only mention the good things about cats. They ignore the times when the cats poop on the floor next to the litter box, or try to scratch your eyes out, or climb up and over you and down the other side, or whatever else cats do that is not so nice and sweet.

I dunno, Herriot seems to have no trouble telling stories about misbehaving dogs. But cats always seem to be perfect.

I think he does it to make cat owners envious.

That was freaking hilarous! I am not sure if I would have gotten it as well if I didn't have two of my own. Especially having Conaire, who is mean and cranky.

Well, if I'd never owned a cat, I don't think I'd understand why people love cats so much. Really, they can be completely and utterly obnoxious, yet I adore them.

Cats kill brain cells. And logic circuits in the brain. Vulcans would probably have a hard time with cats.

In an alternate reality, Spock spent his entire life attempting to master catitude.

I can relate to a lot of this but especially the Chrissy on the bed part.

Except when they're on the bed, I don't ask them to move. I try to get in carefully so as not to disrupt them, and if I can work my way around them in some contorted position, I will. Depending on the cat, Goldie may get up and go away, or continue sleeping like nothing happened. Peaches will make a very indignant sound meow and smack my feet under the blankets, but then repositions herself. Boo gets as close as possible to me no matter what. He must be leaning on me at all times when I'm in the bed.

As I said, there was no way I could have shared the bed with Chrissy, unless I was able to fold myself like a flag. She was lying edgewise, stretched out, leaving only corners of the bed.

Also, if I even sit on the bed, she gets indignant. Yeah, she's got me trained.

*snickers*

I honestly think that all cat owners are aware that cats WILL act up. Because at some point, absolutely every cat is an evil spawn of the devil cat!

Unfortunately, that isn't true of dogs. Some dogs are absolute angels their entire lives. And when a dog like that is naughty, it's more cute than anything, even if the doggy has just chewed up your favorite shoes/pillow/etc.

And while some dogs are mean and vicious, I don't think I've ever met an evil dog. Cats on the other hand blame you when the weather changes and may attempt to smother you in your sleep. *grin*

I did know one evil dog growing up, but it was because that's how he was raised mostly, but honestly, this dog just had this look that told you that yeah, he was trained to be vicious, but he also loved every minute of it.

I saw an ad the other day that said that children who are responsible in whole or part in caring for a cat have better self esteam. I wasn't surprised, because honestly, with the way cats can act, if you do get one to be nice to you, even if it's only for a couple minutes, you really feel like you've accomplished something.

You sorta proved my point. For a dog to be mean like that, someone usually has to work at it. When I was a kid, my stepfather had a dog that hated kids, and attacked me which was a painful and scary experience.

Of course, the poor little bugger had been abused by some other kids so badly that we couldn't break him of attacking kid sized people so he had to be put down.

Dogs are fun, and good to play with and cuddle, but there's just something special about the times a cat will sit in your lap and just purr away.
