I bought twenty cans of kitten food this week. Most of it Friskies, but a few cans of Iams. We don't have a kitten, of course, but I bought the food anyway. Then, I called the shelter and told them I had some canned kitten food, and I wanted to drop it off ( Read more... )

Way back when when I was volunteering at our local shelter, I din't do a whole of of cleaning of the cat room, but I was the one of the few who could pill cats. So I was sent to the sick room to administer medications to cranky kitties. :D Then someone found out I could clip their nails, too, without too much yelling and screaming and gnashing of teeth, so I got to do that, too.

No, not much cleaning done on my part, yet they were happy to see me twice a week.

Sadly, I cna't afford to volunteer anymore. I need the $$$, otherwise I"d keep doing it. :(

I'm pretty good at pilling cats, but I don't know how needed that is. I can clip nails too, as long as it isn't one of mine (don't ask, I don't get it) But, I think everyone has to clean there. As long as they aren't special needs or kid of one of the volunteers.

I'd like to someday have the "Play with kittens" job too, but I have a feeling I'd be bad at it, because my first concern will always be making sure the cages are clean. I can't bear seeing animals in dirty cages. It just breaks my heart.

To quote a former co-worker, "You're good people." :-)

*laughs* I don't know if I'm good people or not. First time at the place and I'm already whining.

Then, very cleverly, I said I wanted to volunteer, and were they looking.

Very sneaky. :) It is a shame that such guile is required to volunteer to help, but maybe their lack of excitement over more generic volunteering methods is related to the kind of volunteers they often get that way...

Anyway, congratulations, and I hope it is more a rewarding experience than a frustrating one! (I hope you know how selfless a wish that is for me, given that I love reading a good rant :3)
