Sorry, I meant to be updating all over the past three weeks. The internet is so buggered at my house. It figures that, just as I start to pull out of my depression, start drawing again, and get an AWESOME FRICKIN' COMPUTER (I'll never stop bragging), that I'd have connection problems. :P ( Read more... )

I think context matters greatly. And also basing it off of real people you observe in real life helps. Human consciousness works in such a way that if you put enough material in between your "glares" nobody will notice how similar they are. Just as long as they're not back to back or one or two sentences in between. Also, you can also omit a description of how they're behaving if you've established it earlier. For example, if she's getting him upset, and he glares at her, we automatically assume he's angry when he says the next line, even if you don't put a "he said angrily" or "he glared again" or "he glared" in that spot. In fact, if you do put one of those there, it would be really terrible to read. Take a cue from Hemingway's short stories. Half a paragraph is nothing but dialogue, and not even a "said" in there. The dialogue is that distinct.
