I wish I had the time for a full-bore political post right now, but unfortunately I do not. Nonetheless, I cannot help but comment upon yesterday's visit of President Obama to the UN General Assembly ( Read more... )

Would you ever seriously have thought it would come to this? It's like having Neville Chamberlain in charge. Worse, because we're somehow suddenly aligned with all the worst characters. I shake my head.

Heh... well, good things can come from massive public policy failures. Even Chamberlain:

1) Had to declare war on Germany after his policy of appeasement failed miserably; and

2) Essentially paved the way for Churchill to come to power, and was forced to concede the foolishness of his policies as his successors reversed them and gained some very visible victories for their efforts.

Sometimes you need people to make idealistic decisions that ignore the realities of human nature. They become lovely pariahs to rally against when sanity finally prevails. ;)

Let's hope we can hold things together without too much damage until sanity finally prevails again...

I'm always fascinated by posts like this because I can't tell if you're actually serious or not.

Sadly, in this case, I am dead serious. I have zero respect for the UN to begin with. We've always done pretty well as a nation by bullying, avoiding, or generally just ignoring the UN... because that's what everyone else does too. When you start gaining their admiration, I pretty much figure it's like a canary in a coal mine.

You realize, of course, that makes about as much sense as evaluating Obama based on how Lyndon LaRouche's followers view him.

Um, actually, that makes a great deal of sense. Nobody would have any idea who Lyndon LaRouche was if it wasn't for the crackpot followers out stumping for him. His message is lost in the tin-foil-hat static of his supporters.

I'm not sure why judging Obama by his followers should be any less useful. They're following him for SOME reason, after all...

Particularly in the UN, where the only rule of allegiance that applies is generally "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."
