I've been craving apples like mad. Bought a few varieties at the store, including one I'd never seen before: Paulared. I liked the name and how it looked (size and color of a Mc except speckled) and the taste is ok: tastes like a Mc but none of the crispness. Not mealy, just... not as firm as a Mc. Google turned up it is of the McIntosh "type". I ( Read more... )

Apples: Pink Lady. And if you can find them in the fall, nothing beats a Lobo apple. The Lobo apple must have been the forbidden fruit. For cooking: Northern Spy.

I've never tried a Pink Lady or even heard of Lobo or Northern Spy apples, but I will definitely be on the look-out, especially considering I am moving up into apple country!

Besides sauteed apples and onions, baked apples and sweet potatoes, applesauce, and the occasional apple tart, I don't do much cooking with apples. What do you recommend to an apple-aroused foodie?

I'm afraid my suggestions will consist mostly of desserts... apple crisp, apple-raspberry cobbler ( Ihave a fantastic recipe for this) , chocolate-apple loaf...

mmmm, apples. I craved Granny Smith when I was pregnant with Kim but Spartans are my all-time favorite.

Sounds like you are making great progress on getting ready to move. I hope the next few days go smoothly for you :-)

Granny Smith are amazing, and even the organic ones keep forever in the fridge.

Never tried Spartans. For being a New Yorker my whole life, I sure have a lot of apples to try.

Hehehe. A friend of mine actually anticipated a positive pregnancy test because she started having sex dreams typical for her in early pregnancy!

The problem is though is that they are REALLY hot dreams and I wake up wanting to jump my husband ... but too scared to just in case. Grrr. Being a horny pregnant woman terrified of having another m/c is NOT fun! ;-)
