My mom was here the past couple days and we had the most fantastic visit ever. She got here Thursday morning- we met her at the airport and took a taxi home. Fight #1 with an asshole cabbie, who didn't know his way around for shit. He kept asking Michael to point to where we live on a map. Haha, welcome to New York mom! We showed her the apartment and headed back out, as we were all quite hungry. Had a delicious lunch at Andrews and began our stroll. We were going to do 7th Avenue and take a train up to Columbus Circle, but we were having such a fine time walking that we made our way through Times Square (of, the M&M Store!) and up to our original destination. Took mom to see Bethesda and Thoth. The leaves are not particularly brilliant, but Central Park is absolutely beautiful this time of year. We were going to hail a cab, but we ended up looping around to the street anyway (which was really funny) and headed over to Zona Rosa. I learned that mango coco margaritas are the best ever and the cook sent out a new dish that was divine: Mexican pizza. It was so good to see our friends there, it has been a while. Mom proclaimed that those were the best margaritas she has ever tasted. We wanted to do some more partying, so we decided to go find an Irish pub. The one we went to wasn't what we thought though, so we stopped by Don't Tell Mama. The music didn't start till 9, so we went to the Village and sang our hearts out at Marie's instead. We drunk dialed Craig. We sang some more. We took many random pictures. Started home but Michael thought we should eat first, to stave off any horrific hangovers. Went to some cafe that has Palm in its name... I had a grilled cheese and some fries. Then I drunkenly spilled my water. Caught a cab home for cabbie fight #2, which I missed because I fell sound asleep. But somehow it involved us getting kicked out of the first cab and ushered into another, which did get us home.

Friday morning we were up and relatively healthy. Started in Chinatown, on the hunt for a big red purse and pashmina. (Both of which we found, as well as a kickass Betty Boop purse that now never leaves my shoulder.) Got tres hungry and started hunting for somewhere to eat- not as easy in Chinatown as you might assume. But guess what we stumbled on? The Excellent Dumpling House, oh yes. Their pan friend noodles are as good as their dumplings and I discovered that I like green tea (just not the Japanese kind). We ate a lot and it was good. Also found one of those grocery stores where, if you go down a level, it's like a department store. Moving on, we went through Little Italy and SoHo toward Tribeca. Michael was going to hail a can but kept saying it would be easier one block down... then we saw one of the delivery guys! Got a cab anyway, it was not the 15 minutes we were promised. Visited with everyone at the store and had the most divine treats at the Soda Shop. I had something called a red cow, which involved black cherry soda, ice cream, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, and a giant straw. Mmm. Went home for a rest and to get ready. That night, we went to see Les Miz at the Broadhurst. It was amazing, absolutely amazing. I could just go on and on about the sets, costumes, singing, etc. Afterwards, we went to Junior's for sandwiches and cheesecake. Our waiter was really strange but otherwise it was lovely.

Yesterday we just hung out till it was time to take mom to the airport. Tears were shed. We're so bad at the "see you laters". Michael and I went to the library, I needed my fix. Tried to go to the post office to pick up a package, but they had already closed. Probably should have done that first but the PO is a few blocks from home whereas the library is much farther up and on a different line. Oh well. I had enough time at home to eat my leftovers and change before salsa, which went well. Jen and I were both feeling sort of off, but we got through a lot in class including a difficult turn combo and some new partnering stuff and things started to really gel toward the end of the session. Michael made a yummy pasta dish with a pesto sauce and we had a late, yummy dinner. I worked on uploading and cropping pictures until bed. Hopefully today I'll get them on to flickr.

Back to work today! I feel refreshed, having had the past couple days off and certainly less homesick. The holiday rush is soon to start!
