Is Chicago? Is not Chicago?

OK, I'll admit it: I judge every city against NYC. To me, NYC is the ne plus ultra, the pinnacle, the über and the ür - even when it drives me crazy (which is most of the time).

I love Chicago! I've only been there once, but I fell for it the moment I stepped off the El in front of the Palmer House Hotel. I'm a bit of an architecture geek so there was a thrill for me around every corner: Sullivan, Wright, van der Rohe, and tons of gorgeous art deco. I was surprised at what a friendly city it was too. I need to go back sometime in the not too distant future.

Oh, the architecture! Swoon. I wish I'd had a chance to see Mies van der Rohe's IIT campus buildings (there's a daily tour, but I just didn't have time). And Frank Lloyd Wright in Oak Park. Ah well, next time!

I hope you get to go back soon too!

I made a special trip out to Oak Park one day. FLW's home and studio, and block after block of FLW houses--so beautiful! If you do have the time next trip, take one of the Chicago Architecture Foundation's tours. I took the art deco tour and it was really well done.

I really, really loved the city. I can't wait to go back! So many intriguing-looking neighborhoods that I didn't have time to explore...

The Piano wing was fantastic. The gift shop is great too, although I must warn you about sticker shock! (It's all rather Design Within Reach-y.)

Hi Andrea, just to say I'm over here now : http://steviecurates.blogspot.com. Ran out of steam with LJ and decided to do something which I was far more into; also wanted to avoid that stalkerish davesmusictank creature who was on there and pasting my interests and entries into his LJ ! Hope you're well.
