I have had good luck finding hats at Sears and Kmart. With hats you have to hit the store every two weeks or so, to get your pick of the new shipments before they sell out. Also, Target will eventually have summer hats, and some of those are good/functional as well as pretty.

I found a couple of big-brim hats at Forever 21 last season. One big black felt hat, and one huuuuge straw sun hat (very Vogue-looking).

If you were in Minnesota, I'd say just go to the Mall of America. One of the two Ragstock stores there has a huge selection of plain wool brimmed hats-like maybe 75 in about 5 different colors.

You know, I actually went to your profile to see if you were anywhere near Minnesota before I commented, and I couldn't find any location info at all. Maybe you should repost to a local community, or with England/Scotland/whatever in the post?

I also notice that cancer hat websites have a few (very few) of the kind of hat you describe.

Also, I bought a pair of prescription sunglasses over 10 years ago. If you can manage not to lose them, they are well worth the money, especially for driving.
