It's like the stuff is my cryptonite. I don't know how to properly care for it, how to sew it, or how to work with it. Does anyone else have any problems with the stuff?
What are you trying to make it do? Big floofy skirt? Barely there floaty thing? Overlay?
I basically try not to get it filthy, and air it out so it stays fresh. Handwash if it's got something on it. If it's crumpled, you could probably just rinse it and fluff it up as it dries. (I usually just leave them draped over something for a week before I want it, if it's crumpled.)
it kinda depends on what you are doing with it. if gathering it, i would do it my hand and then stabalize your basting by running it through the machine with a strip of something like elastic or ribbon or stabalizer tape against the feed dogs. a zig zag stitch may also be helpfull. if doin something like a sleeve, i would hand baste the seam, then cover the edges with a bias piece of chiffon before running it through the machine. for a hem, it doesnt really need any treatment but if you choose, a satin ribbon sewn to the edge is good. the hairspray thing is good for making it stiff, but i will also suggest a product called stiff stuff, much stiffer. and yes, hang it inside out.
it's okay on top under the presser foot, but will snag on the feed dogs (some machines have the option for teflon/delicates feed dogs).
if you have a floofy dance tu-tu, turn it upside down on a hanger so the inside hangs down over the waist, and separate and spray layers with aquanet hairspray to give a harder, crisper floof (this was an old 80s prom dress and girls dance outfit trick).
