Asheville "White people that want to play the mandolin professionally" North Carolina.

They've obviously never been to Boone. We're concentrated Asheville, but we don't suck.

If he really wants to be around some good mandolin players (as well as fiddlers and banjo players), then yeah, western NC would be perfect for him. Wilkesboro, Boone, Asheville...it's all very, very good music. We have a lot of pickers from Ireland and Scotland coming to play, as well as some really good singers. Bluegrass and folk music are huge here, which kicks ass. People take it seriously here, not so much to make it 'big' but because they like being around others that can make them better, ya know?
