One way to quit smoking - for good

Jul 30, 2004 05:54

My family received some sad news on Wednesday evening, one of my cousins passed away, at the age of 51. This made me rather sad, because as a young boy he was one of my idols - someone I thought typified everything that was "cool" in the world. Jerzy introduced me to Rock music - my father listened to country - and I learned about groups like Led ( Read more... )

Sorry to hear about your cousin. The only experiance I've personally had with mouth cancer was when my German Shepard got it. My parents had to have him put down when they were feeding him out of an eye dropper. What a horrible disease. I'm sure your cousin is in a much better place, or if he's bored there, having a hell of a time elsewhere. :)

I'm glad to hear you done so well in keeping your commitment to quit smoking, I've watched too many friends and family struggle with it. My aunt was diagnosed late last year with stomach, lung, and breast cancer all suspected to have been caused by her 50+ years of heavy smoking. She has been undergoing chemo for the last few months but they don't expect her to make it to next year. I never really got to know her because she always lived in Texas and my father never had much interest in visiting his family and now with the divorce I seriously doubt I'll see her before she passes. My step-grandmother died of lung cancer when I was a little kid so I never got to know her. I wish you all the willpower and strength in the world. Oh and get your ass over to a west coast con next year, I'll buy you a drink since I'll finally be legal.

Sorry to hear about your loss and thanks for sharing bits about your cousin, celebrating and acknowledging who he was. Also, I applaud you for quitting, I've seen many people go through the process with varying degrees of success and I'm always so impressed and happy for those who succeed.

It's never easy to lose a family member, especially one you knew well and liked. I can count the number of people I know that have successfully quit smoking on one hand. Good job, I know it's not an easy thing to do.
