Inferiority and objectification of women are all too common in Asian cultures. They are often portrayed as weaker or more susceptible to harm etc. See Death Note for example, if you don't get what I mean I'll find you that comic again which parodies it =P

Yeah, I know, Nick.. I am rather familiar with Chinese and Japanese culture. It was just much more relevant in House of Flying Daggers than Hero, which had some strong female characters, I believe. But you're totally right, and I wouldn't mind seeing that comic.

I like good use of repetition too, such as in "Shaun of the Dead" or "Hot Fuzz" =P and other films of course but those spring to mind
