I hope your mum is ok now, at least--that stuff sounds horrible, too! O.o
The symptoms are quite similar, although i haven't had any antibiotics in over a year, i think. Just the steroid cream for the lichen sclerosus(sp?). Still, maybe it was a left over reaction that just caught up...
