News has reached me of two of my readers getting together. I'm not sure how official it is yet so I don't want to expose anything I shouldn't, but I'm stoked for you guys anyway.

I'm off work today as I'm working Saturday, which means there's only one thing for it- bore you guys with an epic weekend update!!!

All I remember of Fiori was disgust, so it's difficult to picture them being good.

See, they were good first time I saw them, bad second time, and good again third time. With this pattern in mind, I'm nervous of seeing them a fourth time.

I think the harmonica was mostly the problem- they changed their whole style to accommodate it, and you know my feelings on harmonicas anyway.

Fair enough, patchy is better than irredeemably awful. Didn't they have their dad playing the harmonica as well? Dire.

I actually asked about this, here's the highlights of the response I got from Fiori's current boss AK (excuse the run-on sentences and stuff, but it's still followable):

The period you mention with the harmonica is a bit of a saga . Basically the guy on harmonica was involved with managing fiori for a while, trouble was he had been a well known muso in his own right [Eyeless in gaza frontman ] and we rescued him from a real bad spell of depression cos he hadnt performed for a long time and he really enjoyed hanging out with the lads. He did get us a couple of great gigs with alan mcgee , but he started to join in [on harmonica] at band practice and the lads enjoyed the experimental qualities of that but then it all GOT OUT OF HAND!. the long and the short of it is when fiori couldnt take the constant stage invasion and told him to chill out , he basically didnt want to know anymore. so there you have it. Eyeless In Gaza were a semi-big Coventry band in the 1980s who actually sound pretty good from their write-up in Pete Chambers' ( ... )
