"Mmm," she noises thoughtfully, looking him over curiously. "Almost enough to upgrade your status from 'secret admirer' to 'stalker'."

Tess would argue that's merely his opinion - and one she doesn't share - but he's said something else that catches her attention for the time being.

"And what 'better things' would those be?"

"You already know that, Tess," Darkseid tells her quietly. "There are many more important things that require your attention of late."

"Not anymore," she says in kind, looking away from him again. "I only have one thing to worry about and when that's done," she shrugs, "who knows."

He leans forward and gives her a knowing smile, whether she decides to return his gaze or not. "The destiny you've devoted yourself to extends further than this, Tess. But if you'd like something more to worry about immediately, I suppose we could remedy that. Perhaps you're lucky I decided to come after all."
