telesilla and I have been watching Rome this week. Not surprisingly, in addition to making the cat dance to the theme song and screaming "SO DOING IT!" every time Vorenus and Pullo are on screen together, it's rekindled my interest in writing about Vampire!Jason's early years ( Read more... )

How far are you into Rome? Because the first three episodes drag a little, but after that, hot damn! (Have you gotten to the Cleopatra sex yet?)

We just watched the Cleopatra episode last night; it's totally the "getting some" ep. Well except for poor, honorable Vorenus, but then he finally got some a few eps back. I understand the mirroring thing with showing both Caeser and Servillia having sex, but it sure reads like "Hey, we're HBO, let's bring the lesbians too!" Not that I mind, of course.

I love the way that the period is perfect for a nighttime soap. It's as if, after 30+ years, someone said "well it worked for the BBC with I, Claudius back in the day; we should give it a go only with more male asses and the occsional cock to spice things up."

I love the Celopatra sex, because it's so queer with her short hair and boyish body and all of that juxtaposed with Mark Antony being all pissed off about being left behind.

As to the lesbians -- sigh. Why do lesbians always have to have sex very very slowly?

I LOVE Rome.

Although I prefer to think of Vorenus doing it with Antony. Yum.

I like Chaim Potok's A History of the Jews. It has a chapter on Rome, but focuses more on the oppression of Jews than what life was like for privileged Jews. Still, for free from a library, it might be worth checking out. Also, Claudius the God by Robert Graves concerns Herod (grandson of the famous baby-killer) quite a lot, but it is a well-researched novel, not a history.

Mr. Purefoy is rather hot. There's actually a lot of hot to go around in that show--I certainly wouldn't kick Niobe out of bed for eating crackers.

Ooh, thanks. Since Herod the Great is Vampire!Jason's great-great-grandfather, if I counted right, that will actually be useful.

Sorry I'm not of any help, but: I've been watching Rome too. Just finished ep. 11 a few minutes ago, actually. *cuddles Pullo*
