I've hit a wall on "Corrosion", which is deeply frustrating since I've only got two more sections to finish. Ruth and I are in the endgame of "Collision" and we've really got to finish "Material World" after that. We've got more vampire backstory than we will ever be able to write; I have the beginnings of a Ron/Lucius mpreg plus 6 more of my 11 ( Read more... )

writing, fanfic, final fantasy viii

I'mma take us out to dinner tonight and then we're gonna come home and write, OK? The only thing here that has a deadline is Arcana, and I have it on good authority that the mod is a big ol' softy.

You're going to make my head explode...lol. I'm eagerly waiting for this. =p

Take your time. You're doing such a brilliant job and if you rush it, then it won't come out the way you want it. So, take your time, take a breather, we'll be waiting for you...promise.

Wouldn't want to rush the genius.

Aw...you're making me blush now. But seriously, thanks for the compliment, and I do hope you'll like the result. I've had it plotted out for a while, but the words are getting a little stuck.

Irvine! Eeeeeeeeeeeeee! Irvine is such a sweetie. I had him dangling from my backpack for years til I lost him.v_v I was never hot for Seifer, but I know you can fix that.

I adore Irvine, although I can't for the life of me figure out how he, out of all of them, is supposed to be the "ladies' man" when he reads to me like the gayest set of pixels this side of Sephiroth. I'm also amused that people write him with kind of a southwestern cowboy drawl, when the game text makes him sound like a valley girl. ("So, like, do you know where we're going?")

On the other hand, given that he took down Bahamut almost single-handed last night and did most of the damage to Ultima Weapon despite being killed twice in the fight, I've got to give the boy credit for not just being a pretty face.

As for Seifer, well...it's my bad boy thing. That, and the fact that he's one of only three guys in the entire game that I could see as tops.

Now I must ask, who are the other two? And why? I especially await your take on Zell.

One, now that I think about it. I was going to say Ward and Raijin, but really, Raijin is a big ol' bottom (to Fuujin). But Ward strikes me as the kind of quiet, steady guy who'd want to be in control. Mind you, since I think Laguna and Kiros are so doing it, I kind of think Ward's just standing there shaking his head with amusement.

I love Zell--he's such a chav. You just know that he once thought Vanilla Ice was the coolest thing ever. I have plans for him in the AU--I suspect it'll end up in the Squall/Zell place.

My real problem with this fandom will be avoiding the Rinoa bashing. I hate doing that, but she annoys me so much. It's not because she's coming between Squall and Seifer/Zell/Irvine. It's because she's a twit.

"Corrosion" will come. I once had a writing professor say that a professor of theirs consiered all "writers block" to be a failure of confidence. I think, though, that when you hit a wall, it usually means there is something your subconscious is trying to show you about yourself and until you figure it out, it won't seem right. I'm sure plenty of writers have the fortitude to just soldier on and crank out something that will still be acceptable quality, but if your brain is trying to learn something, I say let it!

you know all the tricks I'm sure -- look at it from the other character's point of view, skip ahead and then back track, re-read what you have looking for missed hooks or loose threads, etc... that and take lots of showers, long drives, or lie awake thinking about it... any time when the brain can be semi-automatic and yet still thinking about the topic at hand...

*nods* I'm concentrating on finishing up "Collision", which is currently at 80 pages and counting. We're really close to finishing, which would be pretty amazing, since telesilla and I are the WIP Queens. Hopefully after that, the bits of "Corrosion" that have been stuck will shake loose.
