Dean was dumfounded. He was literally staring at Sam and this girl with his mouth hanging open. Bobby was standing next to him with generally the same expression on his face. He blinked and his eyes flickered back to the alien spaceship and watched as other things started coming out as well.
"I was afraid you weren’t real," muttered Sam, his face still buried in River’s hair. She had her fingers laced in his hair and found his ear with her nose. Breathing in the smell she missed so much she whispered things in his ear.
"I was afraid you would forget," she breathed into him, his hair brushing against her face. "I was afraid I couldn’t get to you and-"
"I know," said Sam, turning his head and kissing her on the mouth. "For once, I know."
"Sam," said Dean nervously, watching...people walk towards them. All of them looked some form of annoyed, one more than the rest, and two others were just smiling at Sam and the freaky Martian girl. "Sam!"
"What?" asked Sam, turning around, the girl-thing still in his arms. Dean nodded off in the slight distance and Sam turned back around. The girl stared at him and pushed herself out of Sam’s arm’s, her combat boots touching the ground. Dean found it amusing how much Sam towered over her.
"Mal," Dean heard him mutter. He watched this Mal guy pulled Sam into a rough hug, looking somewhere between pissed off an relieved.
"Well, River found the gorram boy," said the tallest out of them, probably as tall as Sam (but bigger). A pretty girl in a jumpsuit whacked him across the side.
"I’m just glad Sam ain’t hurt," she said. "Right? You ain’t hurt are ya?"
"He’s fine," snapped Dean. "Sam, what the hell is going on?"
"You’re the only one who gets to call him Sammy," said what’s-her-face, River or something. Dean looked at her and she looked away from him and at Sam and Mal, who had pulled him away to give him a look over. "Beside me."
Dean looked from each person to the next, ending with Ellen and Jo, who had a look on her face that said she was extremely confused. Dean shook his head and rubbed his forehead, trying to figure out what was going on.
"I think I’m hallucinating," he said finally. He heard Sam laugh at him.
"You’re not hallucinating," said River. "You’re uneasy, and distraught, but you’re not hallucinating. Hallucinating is what I do."
Dean looked at her for a long time and finally turned and started walking back to the bar. Sam watched him go, the smile still hovering over his face.
"Dean!" he called. "C’mon, Dean," but Dean didn’t turn around, just kept walking. Sam frowned and looked over at River.
"You angered him," she stated. "He thinks it’s made up."
"How can he think that, you’re all right here-"
"He thinks it’s made up," said River again. She looked away from Sam then and his stare lingered for a moment before he took off after his brother.
"So," said Jayne, perking up a bit. "This is Earth that Was."
"It’s so normal," said Kaylee, looking around. Her eyes stopped on Dean’s Impala and they brightened. "Ooh, shiny...."
