Sam wanted to punch a wall. His girlfriend was being held captive by some crazies who thought they would have some fun with her brain, Simon was a slip of the tongue away from finding out Sam had gotten his mei mei pregnant, Mal was trying to figure out a plan, and he wanted to punch a wall. He closed his eyes and tried to think.

"Alright, Doc," said Mal giving Simon a look and snapping both him and Sam out of their stupor. "Lead the way."

"But, we don't have any idea where-"

"Don't matter," said Mal, resting his gun on his shoulder. "You know this place, let's find a big room. Maybe for preserving life or cloning."

"Well, there's a lab for growing body parts-"

"Fantastic. I have a feeling they're keepin' her there," said Mal, turning down the hall. "Just this way?"

"Yes," started Simon, he and Sam following after the Captain. "But, what makes you so sure she's there-?"

"Call it a hunch," said Mal under his breath, backtracking down a hallway they missed and stopping at a door with a small window in it.

"Ta ma de," he breathed, beckoning Sam and Simon over to him quietly. "Simon, I'm gonna need you to shoot the door open."

"Why me?" asked Simon as Mal handed him one of his guns and backed away from the door.

"Because I need you at her as fast as gorram possible," said Mal, tossing Sam a gun and raising his own. Simon took a breath and fired.

Sam smelled the blood in the air before he saw it. The first thing he saw was River turning her head to the open door and locking eyes with him. They were glazed over and her face was pale. She mouthed his name and nothing else mattered anymore. Sam pushed past Simon and Mal, didn't notice guards aiming their guns at him, just went to her.

"What is that hwun dan doing?" Mal muttered under his breath and taking out some of the guards. "Gonna get himself killed."

"River?" said Sam softly, leaning over River and cupping her face with his hands. He swallowed and gave her a once over, bitting back curses as he tried not to linger on the blood soaked sheet cover her abdomen. "Bao bei?"

"How bad is it?" asked Simon, coming up behind him. Sam shook his head, mouthing wordlessly while Simon pushed him out of the way.

"Stop being useless," Simon muttered. "They cut her open."

"Really?" snapped Sam, his hand on River's shoulder. "I couldn't tell."

"They...they took her," said River, looking up at Sam her eyelids dropping heavily. "Keeping her safe."

"Her who, River?" asked Simon, opening his med kit and pulling out his stitching kit.

"Her," said River, lifting her arm and pointing. Sam didn't want to look. He really didn't.

"Is...is that a...a fetus?" asked Simon, squinting. Sam closed his eyes and dropped his forehead on River's, praying that Simon was being stupid today and not putting two and two together. "River was that in...ren ci de shan di, you son of a bitch!"

Sam straitened and looked at Simon to say something, but didn't get a chance before Simon's fist collided with his jaw and he was facing floor.

"Sam," mumbled River before she passed out completely. Mal moved to her side and took Simon's stitching kit, looking from it to River.

"Hey, you're sister's bleeding-"

"The one thing," said Simon, glaring at Sam who was staring up at him from the floor, his lip bleeding. "The one thing I never wanted to know about was you grappling my sister and you do this."

"Doc?" asked Mal, waving Simon's equipment around in the air. "Bleeding sister?"

"I thought, I could trust you," said Simon. "I trusted you because River trusted you-"

"Hey!" shouted Mal, getting both Simon and Sam to look over at him. "Your sister's lost a lot of blood, doctor. Maybe you should stop insulting her boyfriend and fix her."

Simon turned away from Sam and went back to River, taking his things from Mal. Sam got up, wiping blood off his face and trying not to glare to terribly hard at Simon. Mal pulled out his communicator and gave Sam a look before turning away.

"Kaylee, Inara, I'm gonna need a stretcher when we get back to the ship."

"Everything okay in there, Cap?" asked Kaylee. "You find Sam and River okay?"

"River's pretty hurt," began Mal, looking over his shoulder at Simon and Sam who were both standing over her. "And Sam's walking at least."

"What about the others?"

"Haven't heard from them," said Mal, putting away his comm and moving back to River. He nodded at Simon who was putting everything away. Simon didn't say anything, just looked from him to Sam and shook his head. "Alright then," said Mal, nudging Simon out of the way. "Simon, why don't you give me a hand and we'll-"

"I'll do it," said Sam, scooping up River from the table.

"Alright then," said Mal with a nod. "Let's get the hell outta here before someone comes back-"

"They're not coming back," interrupted Sam. "They got what they wanted."

"What?" asked Simon, turning towards the screen behind them and pointing. "That? They wanted that?"

Sam didn't say anything, he lead the way out, Mal following close behind him. After a moment of staring at Sam's retreating back he lowered his arm and looked back at the screen, watching the image of a floating fetus before he turned and followed.
