this. this! SO MUCH THIS!
i'm a huge character person too, and ADORE Rory. i agree with you completely about Matt - he's the Doctor for sure, just not mine. ditto to your Amy and River opinions too. (WHY can't Moffat just get over River?! she's not as enigmatic as he thinks.) i hate the idea of the Doctor being married to anyone, it just doesn't work. i really liked how the series ended too, and do expect much from the next one!
can i friend you just so i have someone else to squee with on my f-list?

The Doctor had a grand-daughter in the first episode.

i don't know much about the first few series, but to be fair... having a granddaughter doesn't mean you were married.

i'm definitely a believer of the idea that River only wants the Doctor to think that they were married.

it does imply the possibility that he's had serious committed relationships before. & there have been many more suggestions of this throughout the entire series.

I agree that Moffat's strength lies in his plots more than his characters. And the episodes he didn't write it didn't appear he took the time to correct things. it's difficult to believe that the Doctor would be so clueless as to how to act as a regular person. he's had enough time to study the people on this world.

And I'm so glad Rory will be there next season...

I can see what you mean, but at the same time I think that studying/being with humans wouldn't necessarily mean you understand the funny little bits of everyday life, or how to believably act like one. That's just my take on it though

And I'm so glad Rory will be there next season...

Me too! I was so, so worried he wouldn't be, but I guess I was worrying about nothing :D

Heh I'm one of those who falls into the category of being happier with a well written and intricate plot. I will say that I wish I cared about the characters more this season. I didn't like Amy much at all, but when I watched the season again, I liked her better. I don't know, maybe I just got used to her. I think what I really want from the next season is to really want to root for Amy and Rory as a couple. I love him, and I love them, but I want a bit more.

Personally, I love River, and I enjoy most of Moffat's female characters. If anything, Amy is the one I like least.

Also, I'm pretty much sold on Matt as the Doctor. I think the eleventh Doctor has a much older and more alien feel to him. I'm glad he's not snogging every female in the damn show. I love the tenth Doctor though, I don't tend to compare them anyway.

But hey! Different opinions are fun!

I love Amy and Rory as a couple too, so I hope it's made plenty of next series. I've gotten to like Amy more as the series has gone, and I find that she generally comes across as nicer around Rory as well. Or it could be that my love for Rory totally negates any dislike I feel for her. One of the two.

I think by now I'm pretty sold on Matt. I've liked him and enjoyed him all long, but it hasn't been until more the end of the series that I've really started caring about him though.

Here from doctorwho.

I agree with you about River; I hate her, too. The thought of the Doctor being married gives me heartburn. :/ I grew up watching Classic Who where the rule was "No hanky-panky in the TARDIS!"

I guess I feel that way too, though I didn't grow up with Classic Who. I'm not saying the Doctor hasn't/doesn't/shouldn't have relationships (I have D/M as my OTP, so I can't be hypocritical) but marriage to River? Their entire relationship/interaction? I hate it.

Yes! I'm so glad someone else sees River as a complete Mary-Sue. I didn't mind her so much in the finale for some reason, but that plus the rest of her appearances? Ick. I will say I've been iffy about Amy this whole season, but the finale redeemed her. Except for the last ten minutes which pushed me firmly into the hating category.

I'm sure there must be more of us out there! You're right, she was marginally less awful in the finale, but that's quite possibly only because the focus wasn't really on her during it, but rather on the plot.

What was it about the last ten minutes that turned you against Amy so much? Or do you mean River?

Sorry, I was jumping topics slightly since you'd also talked about Amy. It was just... we'd seen her really care about Rory, and even grow a bit during the finale, but it felt like once we got to her wedding and she started remembering the Doctor that she just reverted to how she'd been before, undoing any growth she'd had. I don't know, I'll have to watch that bit again later to articulate it better, but it just made me want to throw up my hands and give up.

As for River... we'll see. Maybe next season will be better. But the whole "I'm so mysterious and I can top the Doctor!" for me was old within the first five minutes of her first appearance. At least with the finale she was more focused on getting things done, than playing with the Doctor.

Hmm, I can see what you mean with Amy. It didn't bother me too much; I guess I see it as she'll always fancy the Doctor, and obviously care about him, but she has made her choice and it's Rory she's in love with. I don't know. She'll never be a favourite with me, but I'll reserve my hate for River.

I have a horrible feeling that next series re: River could be even worse, since she says 'this is where everything changes'. (Also, recycling Torchwood lines?) But, we can always hope. I don't think they'll be able to get away with us actually seeing the Doctor married off to someone, so hopefully that will help divert some of what we fear.
