this is the fate you've carved on me

[Mello-bunny--Matt can't stop thinking of him that way, though he's tried to come up with another name for him--has laid waste to both of Matt's sandals and several packs' worth of cigarettes, and is making serious inroads on the blankets on Matt's bed. The thing's a fuzzy agent of destruction. Kind of like Mello himself, really, back in the day ( Read more... )

[It's watching him. Every movement, every breath, every fucking second of his life is consisting of this goddamn thing staring at him with those unnaturally intelligent eyes, ears flat against its head, little body nested into the nook between the single pillow and the mattress.

He'd tried petting it, but it only made it worse. And Mello knows by now that pushing it away doesn't do shit, either. It's just a matter of ignoring it, but that's not turning out to be entirely possible. He's not used to being so watched, and he doesn't intend on getting used to it now.]

Don't be stupid. [The device rests on the table by his elbow, which is propped against the wood, chin sitting in the palm of his hand as he watches the thing as intently as it watches him. If he's gonna be uncomfortable, it's not going to have any peace, either.] It'd probably come back and haunt me if I did. [And he flits a dirty look at it with that.] What's yours doing?

Don't call me stupid!

[It's reflexive and irritated, and he grabs one of the not-horrifically-mangled cigarettes and lights it. And then he realizes what that probably referred to, and can't help but smile, though he ducks his head to hide it. A-ha, his bunny counterpart survived the slaughter.]

Um. Sorry. This thing's wrecking all my shit. Little on edge.

[He privately thinks Mello-bunny feels Matt isn't paying enough attention to him.]

I think chocolate's bad for rabbits, and that's the only idea I've got.

So? If it gets rid of it, try it.

[He personally doesn't give a shit about whether or not the rabbit Matt has survives, and he hasn't accepted the fact that he should be associating it with himself, yet. Just that the thing sounds like a pain in the ass, and if Matt's thing is looking at him anything like his thing is, Mello knows that it's hard as hell to hurt it, let alone potentially kill it.

He flicks a dried crumb of bread at it for good measure. It bounces off of the furry forehead and the thing doesn't even move. Doesn't flinch, nothing. Matt might not be stupid, but this thing sure as fuck is.]

What if we lock 'em in a room together? Maybe they'll take each other out.

I don't wanna hurt it.

[He goes back and forth between thinking the bunny is a victim of the so-called gods, just like all of them, and being annoyed with it for seeming to want Matt to be nice to him without bothering to be nice itself.

That could all be projection, though, which only makes the whole situation more annoying.

The bunny hops over and headbutts Matt ungently.]

Ugh, I don't want it to hurt me, either! Just. Come take it. And I'll take yours.
