A Yummy Summer Cooler!

Hi all of my Northern Hemisphere Summer swelterers!  It's colder than a brass monkey's ... *ahem* ...nose here, so these will have to wait for me, but I saw this yummy recipe/how to for a combo of flavours for ice blocks (Aussie name for popsicles, freeze pops, icy poles or ice lollies, depending on where you hail from) that had never occurred to ( Read more... )

I think I have this recipe. I love paletas ! I really do. They're perfect for summer. I even bought this schmazzy, stainless steel popsicle maker because I'm ridiculous. lol

It all started when I picked up this cookbook.

I had no idea they were a traditional Latino treat!

We have a mob here who make them, but in a bar form with a layer of frozen cream on top. They come in mainly tropical fruit flavours - my favourite one is mango, but they're all really yummy.

I've made my own banana and mango ones from fresh made puree and they were yum too - although the banana goes a bit of a funny colour. It doesn't put me off, though.

They certainly look delicious and a favourite treat in hot weather is an ice lolly, the fruitier the better.
Anything with ginger in would attract me.
By the way, what's V8?

Now you're talking, rhubarb and beetroot.
One of the pub chains over here has got a cider festival on at the moment and two I gave a try to were a rhubarb and a beetroot cider.
Different, but very pleasant on a hot afternoon.

Beetroot cider - that would be quite nice, I'd imagine. I may have to have a crack at brewing a soft drink version this coming summer and see how it goes.

Carrot and ginger! You must do it! I once had a carrot and ginger juice waiting for a friend of mine in Melbourne. A little juice bar up on Spring St that I had walked past at least twice before I suddenly became aware of it. It is worth pointing out that I was almost dying of thirst by the time I got my juice but it was seriously one of the nicest things I've tasted. Awesome flavour and enough like carrot to know it's carrot but not with the bittery taste of it. The ginger counteracted it beautifully ( ... )

I love carrot and ginger juice - that's been a family favourite since my nanna bought a juicer in the late '60's, but I've never made ice blocks out of it - I'm going to this year ( ... )
