I found a collection of wonderful medieval, cloak and hood patterns and tutorials by the oh-so-talented-and-generous Eqos on deviantart. I love these patterns - they're very easy to follow and the construction is authentic, which I appreciate. She has Quiddich robes in several sizes as well ( Read more... )

These are very nice!

The last time I tried to sew was in …7th? 8th grade? in my home economics class (I know…I felt like I had morphed into the 1950s). I had to make a teddy bear, and I sewed his eyes too close to his snout. So I called him Cross-Eyed Bear. lol. (Although the guys' projects were even more horrible than mine…lol). As you can guess, I can't even sew a straight line on a sewing machine, so I am always jealous at those folks who can whip up a dress or whatever (like my mom).

I've sewn since I was quite young and it's stood me in good stead at times. I must say that wearing clothes made to fit you well is a luxury most people have forgotten nowadays but I've only just started again after a loooong break other than repairing my son's seemingly always torn jeans (a constant state of affairs with skaters).

Clothes are so cheap now that it's something people just don't do much anymore. I still like to refashion clothes and upcycle things, though. I'm addicted to op shopping (what we call thrift stores over here) and love making one of a kind things out of my finds when inspiration strikes, but I don't do it anywhere near as often as I used to.

I'm having fun making bits and pieces for my grandson, though. I've made him some hooded towels and a few other things, which has been nice.
