Desperate But Not Serious

Jan 27, 2009 14:53

After a couple decades of the typical ebb and flow of mild-but-still-probably-kinda-bad-enough-to-be-treatable depression, I finally started the ol' rigmarole with Kaiser. Nowadays you have to attend a group orientation prior to initiating any kind of treatment. It was weird (one guy fell asleep, two of the other people didn't think they needed ( Read more... )

We do need to figure out that whole Skype-amajingy... our first order of business is to increase the RAM on our poor old (+8 years!) Mac. Then a little microphone/headset and then we're good to go (right?).

Life is kinda looking up lately. It really could be as simple as the fact that the sun has broken through the winter gloom on several occasions. At some point I will give them a call... just to see what the dealio is. Even if it's "you're just not depressed enough".

We <3<3<3 our rice cooker. And we don't even eat that much rice anymore. It has still earned it's place on our (super small) countertop.

I continue to be envious of your Adventures in Yeast. Last week I tinkered with my standard recipe, added some sugar to the yeast, left it to rise twice as long and rise it did! Beautifully. And after all that, it tasted really, really strange. Sour. Maybe...too yeasty? WHAT GIVES?
Maybe it is not meant to be...

Strange about the counseling delay. People who need some help don't need to feel as if they are being interviewed and have somehow been found lacking, or less than worthy. That is a really shabby system, I should think. Good luck with that - maybe they are just really backed up right now.
Being the new year and all, I bet a lot of people have made some resolutions and goals to straighten themselves out mentally and emotionally, so there's probably a lot of "applicants" or "candidates" who are getting themselves checked out.

Oh, and I can't wait to see the illustrations - it is more "top secret" type work?

Yup, it's "top secret" for now, but not for long. Got a lot of unusable, but still pretty spiffy images out of this round.

My Adventures in Yeast could use a little more spark. I can't get anything to rise in my house lately! It must be a combination of the cold + low humidity.

Speaking of funky tastes... Did I tell you about my hoe cakes? I accidentally used baking soda instead of baking powder. HOLY CRAP did that taste horrific. :P And yet I still ate three hoe cakes. Bleargh.

As for the HMO... I'm kinda indifferent about it today. Once I get up to a good head of righteous indignation, I'll give them a call and see what gives.

The Ernie Kovacs photo more or less says it all about the Kaiser carrying on and the group meeting. But never underestimate the torpor of insurance company bureaucracy. Give it a month.

I made some more cinnamon rolls last weekend and have even contemplated croissant baking, but it's still in the thinkin' stage.

And yay! More illustrations!

Mmm. Ain't no baked goods tweren't made even better with the judicious application of butter. I hope the croissants cross over from thinkin' to makin' to eatin' for you!

I might be doin' a bit of the ol' "heal thyself" action while in this Kaiser holding pattern. :-\
