So far my vary preliminary Googling of "Zencix" has turned up some fancy pants Japanese scissors, but not this particular combo. I shall not be discouraged, though!
You are welcome. I wish I had taken more pics of the food we consumed (fried catfish, livermush, CHEERWINE), but maybe that would've made the homesickness worse.
I met a man, Bojangles and he gnawed on you... with rotted flesh...
Seriously though... jonesing for fried catfish, Bojangles fried chicken, hushpuppies, cheerwine, Blenem's Ginger Ale (the burn! the burn!), buttermilk biscuits and sweet iced tea the way mama makes it.
No more livermush for me though... piggy stuff is off the menu until I find non-pig substitutes.
I keep suggesting vegan alternatives to the liver mush, but you keep laughing at me. :(
My last breakfast biscuit from Bojangles included a ginormous summer sausage... so my memories are maybe not quite as fond as yours. It was ungainly and a bit embarassing.
Cheerwine is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year! They've released retro glass bottles and reverted back to their cane sugar formulation. Maaan, I wish I had gotten my hands on some while we were out there (and then was able to safely ship it back).
I love all the images. I got to see NC in a another light through the pictures you've taken and I'm understanding it more and more and seeing stuff more than what the hubby says.
the pics of D and his niece makes me miss my niece and nephews even more. waaah!!! so touching and really adorable.
You are most welcome! I can't wait to hear of your own first hand impressions of NC! Nieces and nephews are pretty wonderful, even if I am a Cat Lady. ;)
That kitchen was quite the undertaking. Among many of it's fabulous features, some of my favorites:
continuous granite countertop with no seams anywhere (well, I guess there's the one since it's L-shaped)
faucet becomes it's own hose-spray thing... very minimal
a special shelf for the Kitchenaid mixer that swoops up from it's hiding place below the counter - and a drawer underneath that bit of magic to hold all the accessory pieces
an oven they nicknamed Ozzy Osborne
Bose speakers in the ceiling hooked up to the stereo (which in turn is wirelessly connected to their iMac, which now stores most of their hundreds and hundreds of CDs)
ginormous picture windows overlooking their own private valley and the front deck
the peninsula's under-counter storage goes all the way through so that you can unload the dishwasher on one side, and then access those dishes from the other side to set the table
And on and on and on... someday when I grow up (and win the lottery) I will have a kitchen like this one.
There is something about the Mister that makes little kids look at him and say: "FUN! LET'S PILE ON!!!" They are adorable, along with DeathRockKid. I love the D's back deck. They must be very cool people.
I have a couple of friends who lived in/are from the Carolinas, and one of them has moved back. They speak of it was awe and reverence, it must be a beautiful part of the world.
I'm sad to say that I think The Mister and I are the only relatives that are capable of getting down on the floor and really horsing around with our nieces. They have to get their ya yas out quickly and thoroughly whenever we visit. It gets a bit manic (I have another pic I might post later of our middle niece getting a piggy back ride from The Mister. She is throttling him to hang on.)
The landscape of North Carolina is so diverse... from the Appalachians to the rolling fields of the mid-state area (I might be making that part up as it seems to be mostly paved anymore) to the utter wonderful desolation of the Outer Banks. But the humidity is god awful!

I keep trying to re-create the Bojangles experience here when we make fried chicken... but something is always missing.
