Just to warn you, I do ramble on and on and on about Within Temptation. I can't help it. It's like catnip to me... erm, if I were a cat. Okay, wait, scrap that analogy. Let's just say that I like them. A lot.

I will admit to total ignorance of Within Temptation, but my musical tastes are fairly eclectic (or should that be random?).

Within Temptation are a Dutch gothic/symphonic metal band with a female singer. They have 6 (ish since it depends what you count) albums and are one of the most popular bands on the continent. Their singer Sharron has one of the most beautiful voices outside of classical music in the world. They don't make it over here too often :(

If you want to know what they sound like, I've posted a couple of songs at my journal over the past few days. They should play when you click them. Don't be put off by the word metal. They won't be what you're expecting. Try the song Overcome. It's beautiful. *swoons*
