I like the lack of ott because they feel like real people, plus Mio has a spine and I can see her and Ren as equals (btw, I am going to hell because I find Ren ridiculously hot and he's solo young for me. Like you, I started thinking he is odd looking but now he makes me ridiculously hormonal.)
She is soooooo bland but whatever, he does not get the girl so might as well enjoy his herbs. Yuki's teeth scare me.
Also, do you feel that both Ren and Mio feel a lot less childish than their kdrama counterparts? Not. To mention there is actually sexual chemistry, maybe because Mio is not too dim to know about birds and bees.

They are WAY less childish than their kdrama counterparts. I mean, they're still young and ridiculous (their FAAACES) but they really feel like human beings instead of moving plot devices saying "THIS IS A ROMANTIC MOMENT" or "THIS SCENE WILL BE WACKY."
I think the remake in general is a lot... calmer? Like, YAB was all about extreme highs and lows. Ikemen is steady, which helps it feel more realistic.
Despite the plot.

Yes, somehow I feel like these people can actually exist somewhere, crazy outfits and all.
Also, it is like they tripled the heroine's iq compared to yab. And, thankfully reduced Ren's mama drama. And increased connection btw Mio and her brother which was sorely lacking in the original. I think overall isnthe difference is that yab was a romcom with emphasis on the com part, and ridiculously ott and juvenile at that and Ikemen feels like a straightforward romance.
His pouty faces kill me, especially when he is doing those crooked sideways grins. Soooooo adorable.
Those grins make me feel like a five year old. Just one and all my upper brain functions are reduced to "eeeeeeeee!!"
I like how they've expanded on the bond between the twins. It makes Mio a much better character - you can really see the sacrifice she made in joining the band and lying to everyone even when she's so pious.
Do you think we'll get a meeting between Mio and Miko? I REALLY WANT IT. I DON'T CARE WHAT CGI MAGIC HAS TO HAPPEN.

It's one of those things where the cast is stuffed full of talent but the storyline somehow just falls flat. I watched maybe four episodes of this and the ending. They did some cross overs with BOSS 2, but still - I don't know. I'm predisposed to hate all the getsus, I think...mostly because they haven't been very good.
But after studying his face for a few minutes - he basically has Meisa's face.

Ren and Mio have such chemistry and Tamamori is really nailing the prickly OCD character. I didn't even know who he was until a few weeks ago when I watched Shiawase ni Narou Yo, and he looked TOTALLY different there. O_O
ETA: I watched that drama which started promising but ended up full of hateful awful characters until ep. 8 and then dropped it after a friend told me how it ended :P. And it started so well :P.

Ren and Mio are one of my favorite OTPs of the new season. They have it all, the cuteness, the chemistry, the big wet dramatic moments, the slow burn. I can't wait to see how they'll handle future plot developments. DO YOU THINK HE'LL BUILD HER A PIG RABBIT??
