I think I would like S2 better if they didn't keep hurrying x10 with the het pairings. It took Arthur an entire season to trust Merlin, but apparently his hormones have something more significant to say about Gwen.

One of the interviews said that Merlin was going to 're-evaluate his relationship with everyone around him', which, the way it's going now, is apparently fading into the background.

There's plot-intensive, and then there's pushing-Merlin-aside-so-we-can-get-everything-in.
