*laughs* Tutorials are what improves your skills! When I was making the transition from anime icons to real people icons, I copied tutorials step-for-step -- then just tweaked the layer settings or brushes or added a new gradient. Of course, I didn't use those, but they were a great way to take a technique you already admired and form your own style from it.
