I'm a Classic Fan who watched during the time the Classic series aired--like my daughter and it is difficult to view the NuWho companions out of the same lens.
Out of all of RTD's companions in the Tenth Doctor era, I felt that sometimes Martha got a bit of a rough deal from fans. The unrequited crush might not have worked in her favour (or the off screen marriage to Mickey) but Martha was a kind, capable, resourceful Doctor who managed to defeat the Master and leave the Doctor before things got too complicated. She might not be everyone's cup of tea but no way is this woman anywhere near as unpopular as some fans like to insist she is. I often say that I wish the unrequited love thing hadn't happen, but I don't think we get the Martha who was so awesome shining on her own in Episodes like Human Nature, or the Utopia/Suound of Drums/Last of the Time Lords without the rejection. And the only thing that is troublesome about Mickey/Martha is that except for them leaving the TARDIS with Jack, --so we know they have the opportunity

I like the way you created this list and where you put Martha on it. I've heard from some Martha fans that they believe she's not only hated because of Rose and falling in love with the Doctor, but it's also racism. What do you think? I didn't know Martha was married to Mickey off screen? I agree that Rose was a better companion with Nine. I also liked Ten and Donna's relationship.
I don't know to be honest. I've never read any racist remarks in relation to Martha, even from some of her harshest critics, so it's hard to say to be honest. Glad you like the list.
