It is in times of tragedy that we really come to realise how much we are loved.

You would have thought that this revelation would have hit me almost a year ago, when my step-father David passed away, 'losing his fight' with cancer.

Oh no! I'm so sorry. :( I understand how you feel about it. I know it's not the same but I owned gerbils, and because they lived in my room and I saw them everyday and talked to them and they had real little characters I was desperately attached to them. One passed away from a stroke just over a year ago, and his brother followed a few months ago. I'd had them for about 5 years, well over gerbil life expectancies. Was devastated when they died!
You probably don't wanna hear all that but just wanted to say...I know it's tough. :( and lots and lots of *hugs*!
