a very spinny thing [01]

Addy was walking briskly through the City toward her apartment when things began to get pear-shaped, if pears were shaped like melting walls and shifting sidewalks. If Addy's heels had been higher she might have fallen but thankfully the girl remained upright, both physically and morally.

She didn't have to go home right away, though, did she? She was pretty sure she heard music, the tinkling sort that drew in children and Addies. She tiptoed down an alley, peered behind a jewelery store, and there, five and a half feet forward, was the Lotus Machine.

Addy slipped on through the gate, looking up at the roller coaster and down at the gritty walkway. She stuck her tongue out at the bumper car ride. She wasn't so neurotic that they scared her, but they did bother her. Bumper cars were disturbing at their essence. Showing children that it was fun to plow into each other in motorized vehicles. She ought to write someone a letter.

She glanced into one of the little mirrors around the top of the carousel. For a moment, just a moment, she thought that she looked like she wasn't wearing makeup.
