Moebius (S/J Moebius oneshot)

Moebius
The first day, as she fights for breath through the adrenalin rush, lying on the Gate Ship floor, she says to herself, "I could get used to this hero thing."
He laughs, and despite her exhaustion, she does, too. Sweat catches the flickering light of sparking circuits, and she wonders if she's just as covered in it as he.
She barely gets to wondering about showers, when Daniel and Teal'c are pounding on the Gate Ship door.
He says she should take the hero thing one step at a time, and tosses her the radio.

It's almost a year before the rebellion finally drives Ra off of the planet. Daniel's not surprised when Teal'c declares his intentions to sneak onto the ship before it leaves, but she's not the only one with tears in her eyes as Teal'c vows to spread the seeds of freedom among Jaffa, and vanishes into the rings.
Daniel says Teal'c would endanger Earth if he stayed, and that this is the way Teal'c can ensure that the Jaffa of the future have hope of freedom.
She can't watch as the ships disappear into the sky, and she can't help but wonder whether her Hero self would have found a way to make that...Tretonin, despite the technological limitations. She bets she would.
He pulls her into a loose hug, and she tries not to cry too hard on his shoulder in front of Daniel. She says, "I don't think I'm cut out for this hero thing after all."
He says she's doing fine.

It's three years before she finds a way to safely destroy the Gate Ship without leaving technologically advanced wreckage strewn across Egypt. He uses the time to ferry them across the world and back whenever boredom takes him.
He once points out a small lake in North America, and suggests building a cabin. Daniel almost lets him do it. So does she. He takes her there whenever she wants a quiet night, anyway.
Daniel marries Katep's sister, and names their child Sha're. He still thinks Lucy would have had a nice ring to it. Daniel won't answer her, when she asks what Sha're was like in her own time line.
He doesn't ask, so much as he presents a crudely shaped piece of clay jewelry, but she still says, "I will"
She wonders whether her Hero self would accept anything so simple.
He says he'll find her a better one, but she never does let go of the first.

It's almost a decade before she finds herself speaking more Egyptian than English. They only have one child, but he seems pleased to have a daughter.
Daniel suggests a name, but Sam's not sure how to pronounce it. They name the child after her mother. Daniel calls her Lucy. He teaches Lucy all sorts of names to use on her 'Uncle'.
She sits on the temple steps, and wonders whether its as mundane for her other self to save the world. Daniel says its never as fun as it sounds to shoot at things.
He's out working until late, but she waits for him, and wonders whether their other selves live in a cabin or not.
He's quiet for a few moments, and says it doesn't matter. He likes the tent more, after all.
She doesn't wonder if her other self said, "I do, too."
