My thoughts, the possibilities & questions on Sub/Sei

Major spoilers for Rainbow Bridge!

What I want to discuss are the possibilities with events that happened between them & alone.

The most obvious question of all is what did Seishiro tell Subaru before he died? Most of us want to believe that it was a love confession, but what if it was another lie? I certainly don't want it to be, but what if it was ( Read more... )

I always believed that Seishirou realized it right before his death, when Subaru was talking to him.. I don't have the volume at hand right now, so I don't remember the exact quotes, but I believe he realized he loved Subaru when he discovered that Subaru had never wanted to kill him in the first place..

It was along the lines of:

"/Kamui/ told me that your wish can only be granted by me & it is different to what I am thinking. Isn't it your wish to kill me?"

"No."

After that he went in for the killing blow, killing himself & telling Subaru about the spell & Subaru's confession that he didn't want to kill him, but to be killed by him.

It's a possibility that it was at this point, but it makes you wonder, Seishiro never put a lot of effort into fighting him, but prehaps that are other reasons for that too. Darn you Clamp!

I think it's got to be a mindtrip to be Sakurazukamori. You really have to keep your heart in a cage, you know? And so, even if Sei had these thoughts that he loved Subaru way back in TB, he would have tried his best to squash that. I would say that there was a lot in his training that had to do with detaching himself emotionally from living things to the point that they were only objects (thus he didn't get involved when Subaru met with /Kamui/ ... that would mean he cared!). So, I don't think he was able to accept it in himself until much later, quite possibly at the moment of his death.

I believe that he loved Subaru, and that he had regrets around how he lived those years between realizing it and dying, because (and OK maybe I'm reaching, but CLAMP makes you crazy this way) if you look at the manga image right after he dies, the expression on his face is rather sad.

Yes I think that he probably pushed them aside to begin with. I'll always believe he accepted it before his death, otherwise he probably wouldn't have activated Hokuto's spell unless he didn't care if it worked or not.

I've seen that picture, which is interesting since in the manga he is a lot more expressional by showing annoyance & shock (when /Kamui/ was talking to him about Subaru's wish).

I like your thoughts about Subaru loosing his eye. It would make some sense if that was when Seishirou figured it all out. I think, though, it was much earlier - by the very end of Tokyo Babylon, maybe. Here is my crazy theory:

Remember when Hokuto tells Seishirou how utterly destroyed Subaru would be if he was betrayed by his special person? And how interested in that Seishirou seemed? I think he filed that away, and used it to make Subaru hate him, toward the end of TB. He knew he wanted Subaru to kill him, and he knew the only way he would get what he wanted was by making Subaru hate him. Only it backfired completely, but that was okay, since he had Hokuto's spell to fall back on. When Fuuma tells Seishirou that Subaru doesn't want to kill him, that's when he forces Subaru's hand. So he gets his wish, and Subaru doesn't - unless, of course, Seishirou's dying words were a confession that Subaru had mattered

Well you know what they say, losing an eye in clamp land means I love you lol.. Seriously though I haven't actually read X yet, I just finished TB but I would like to think that at the end of TB that he did love Subaru.

Well this is interesting, but I've read some of other online TB fans' comments on some of your questions. Well this is purely my view mixed and influenced by some others... this might be a bit long. >.At the end of TB, Seishirou could've easily killed Subaru, but he chose not to. I didnt believe that it was really because Subaru's grandmother came in time. He could've killed Subaru in a split second. Some online fans believe that Seishirou (being the sadist that he is) is just fighting between himself, that he did carry some sort of feelings for Subaru- whether it was love or just mere affection at the time and cannot accept it (or have not realize it yet) because he is a Sakurazukamori and it's not in his nature to know things such as emotion. And I truly believe that he did had a fascination for young Subaru when they first encounter, that's why he decided to give Subaru a chance to prove to him that he can love. But being the stubborn and psychotic person that he is, he would suppress that feeling even if it's just the tiniest bit ( ... )

No, thank you. It's always nice to take in what other SeiSub fans have to say about them. Only by reading other's interpretations, can we come to a better understanding of some of these questions that we might never find a real answer to. (Since CLAMP like to leave us big holes to fill xD.)

This one? I never read SeiSub fanfics before partly because of the first story(paragraph actually) I ever read turn me off, but I'll give that a try ( ... )

That's the fanfic. It's very beautiful & it does have a happy ending but it's still sad, especially the beginning & things are said to explain some of these unanwsered questions that Clamp left us with ( ... )
