Because neldluva and tigerkat24 expressed an interest in this paper, here is my essay on why it's okay to like romance novels.  Please keep in mind that this is not a research paper, but rather an essay that is supposed to "justify an evaluation".  So there is anecdata.

Ooh, this is fascinating. I generally don't read pure romance - like you said, it's the garish "bodice ripper" covers that generally put me off, and the lack of plot that actually really interests me. However, I do generally like a good helping of romance in what I read, which usually falls under the "sci-fi and fantasy" umbrella. The first, and only, "pure" romance novel I read was lent to me by a friend back in high school. I was entirely put off by it - the plot consisted of the young virgin escaping her fearsome uncle and an unwanted marriage by stowing away in a ship bound for America, and getting raped by her would-be rescuer while he's in a fever delirium. Gag me with a spoon ( ... )

I have NO idea. D: I'm trying to get ahold of her to ask, but work is apparently busybusy. ...it's after seven, I should call her again.

Want some good romance recommendations, by the way? I mostly read historicals, but there's a few contemporaries in there. (And I will resist the urge to put in there the ones I read for shits and giggles like "Ruthless Tycoon, Inexperienced Mistress".)

Fabulous essay, m'dear. The anecdata is well-chosen and makes me want to go read Miss Whiting and the Seven Dwarves again. Or at least Beyond Heaving Bosoms.

Thanks for letting us have a look at your work!

Good essay. I have a bit of a problem with how loosely defined the topic is, but since it´s a 1000 words, you´ve worked v. well in the space you´ve been given.

Also! This: "They will laud the laudable and ridicule the ridiculous." I really like it.
