On Whitewashing and BLEACH...

"Look, this does not need Asian actors. There's nothing particularly Asian about the show except for the names, and those can be changed."

I added in the links to prove a point -- and that's just the VISUAL stuff!

Why does the internet insist on hurting me this way?

I don't get it. Is Bleach getting a movie as well?

Yep. Just announced sometime this morning.

Oh. But... casting hasn't even been announced, right? They're still securing the rights, so things are far from being completed. So this is more like preemptive worrying that the cast will be whitewashed?

Pre-emptive, certainly. I have my hopes, since Warner Brothers, to my knowledge, isn't very fail with casting. I may be wrong.

Most of my worries are about how Chad/Sado will be characterised than about how casting will go.

My post is mainly a reaction to someone's reaction to pre-emptive worries about whitewashing. Because ARGH. CAPTAIN AIZEN DOES NOT APPROVE.

The only ones I could really see a need for Asian actors for are Yamamoto, Ishida, and maybe Byakuya, Rukia, and Ikkaku.

>_> Who on earth are they going to cast as Kurotshuchi Mayuri to pull off his crazy creepiness of doom (and that weird weird look)? Or what might they do to Renji and Kenpachi's gravity defying hair? How on earth will they do Yachiru?

As I stated on twitter, this can only end in tears (unless we get really REALLY freaking lucky). I'll give them points though if they use 'shinigami' and not 'soul reaper'. They get half points for 'death god'.

I really doubt they can pull off the Soul Society arc in anything less than a trilogy. And even then it's kinda iffy. If they're wise, they'll focus on the pre-Byakuya stuff -- Ichiro getting his powers, and them him spilling over to Chad and Orihime. Add in Ishida to be the rival and you could actually have a decent movie.

Assuming, of course, you get a decent scriptwriter and a director who knows what he's doing.

Yeah, that would work. It is, as you say though, a matter of getting people who are capable of doing at such. And I'm thinking this is not very likely.
