My boss wants to put up some posters on the poles and stuff in downtown Toronto...does anyone know what the rules are for that and where to hire someone to do that kind of thing? I see guys downtown all the time with their brush and paste and always wondered who they worked for. Do they just post for thier own businesses or is there like a little ( Read more... )

I remember in the Miami season of MTV's The Real World how they got in trouble for putting their flyers for their business on palm trees and other forbidden places. They got a call from a city employee tellling them to cut it out.

You could hire homeless people like Kramer and Newman did when they tried to start their rickshaw business. :-)

Does Toronto have a zoning office that would deal with questions such as this? Or just call the closest city department you can think of, and ask them where you should call for information about where you can put posters up.

There are definitely people/businesses that do that as their job -- generally, I see them advertising via flyer, so if you walked down Queen Street, you'd probably see some of them.

That said, I did my own without any problems -- honestly, they get torn down or covered over so quickly in Toronto, there's not much risk. And it's hard to find a 'wrong' place when you can just use the same spots everyone else does.

That is the one thing I'd say about it, though -- you have to realize that your posters are going to get covered up pretty quickly, so you may have to put them up a couple of times over if you start too early before the event.
