Lilo had taken a swim, had a chocolate pudding for lunch, and read a book. But she was still bored. She went back to her room to paint and listen to music. Nothing. Still bored. She looked around for something to do, then grinned when she saw her camera. She wound it, feeling something inside catch. It felt like there might be film in side ( Read more... )

Ellie wasn't an adult, despite how she may have been treated in the past year or so and she rather enjoyed being around adults...having a chance to try and be a teenager again.

She was sitting in the lobby; back to the wall, pen in one hand and a few sheets of paper resting on a book in her lap. She was furiously writing, getting her story up to date, not just because she'd promised the Doctor that he could have a read when it was done, but because as much as it hurt, she didn't want to forget.

She was engrossed in her recounting, she was up to the fight on the train...nearly to where she'd decapitated that soldier in glasses. She shut her eyes, seeing the scene vividly in her imagination.

She hadn't even seen the young girl.

Ellie chuckled, the noise sounded alien to her ears. It wasn't a noise she'd made in close to a year. "Outside my bedroom, I could always hear the dogs settling down to sleep, and the cattle in the paddocks."

"My dog sleeps next to me in his bed. And I've never heard a cow, except on TV. They seem really loud. But I'd be really loud too if people wanted to eat me." She chuckled a little bit herself. Ellie seemed to need to laugh. Lilo figured most people in the Hotel needed to laugh more.

"We had four dogs before the War and as for cows, they're louder than they sound on tv. I used to help dad all the time on the farm. Once, Homer dared me to go into the old bull's paddock." Ellie laughed at the happy memory, "in the end we both went in together. The bull charged us almost immediately, nearly got Homer on the bum too. Dad and Mr Yannos were so angry at us for that."

Lilo laughed. "I don't think cows poking butts would feel very good. Do you want to see Stitch?" She rifled around in her skirt, then pulled out a photograph of her, Stitch, and Nani. Nani's arms were around her younger sister, and Stitch had all four of his arms around Lilo as well. Lilo beamed, waving at David who had taken the photo.

"Homer wasn't able to sit down for a week after Mr Yannos was finished with him. I think he would have preferred to have been hit by the bull." The chuckle was actually reaching Ellie's eyes now. She could count on one hand the amount of times that had happened in the past year.

"Who's Stitch?" Ellie asked as she took the photograph and looked at it. She blinked in disbelief at the little blue creature, "is that an animal native to Hawaii?"

"Stitch is an alien. But he's my dog now." She smiled at the picture. "Isn't he cute?" Lilo remained very still. She knew it was hard to braid hair if she wiggled.

"I...uhh yes." A small pause, "alien? You mean like the Doctor? Hold this," Ellie offered Lilo's braid for her to hold as she untied her own, using that tie to tie off the end of Lilo's.

Lilo held onto the braid obediently. "Yes. But not from the same place. And maybe not the same time."

Under normal circumstances, Ellie would have never believed in the existence of aliens, but after the Doctor had shown her his double pulse and cooler body temperature she was starting to believe. "Not the same time?"

She finished tying Lilo's braid off and let go of it with a grin. "How's that?"

Lilo tried bouncing up and down, and beamed. "Oh, that's great! Thank you, Ellie!" She turned and gave her a hug, letting it last a little longer than she would have when she first met her.

"You're welcome." Lilo really did remind Ellie of little Casey, and she tentatively hugged her back. She was still getting used to people showing kindness to strangers again.
