Eating After Dark (Open, Multiple Threads Welcome)

Dean sat at a table in the dining hall, hunched over a plate of chili fries. He'd been thinking about Jack's idea. It was sound, and it was fair, but he wondered if it would work. He half-hoped it wouldn't, and half-hoped it would. He'd pick a direction and walk, same as he expected everyone else would ( Read more... )

((OOC: I realize this post is from about a week ago... Is it too late to respond?))

John hadn't been sleeping well since arriving in the hotel. It was too strange, being cut off from everything and everyone he knew, trapped in this little box full of random strangers (and old acquaintances), without any explanation.

He was naturally an early riser, but this was really rather too early even for him. The sun wouldn't be up for some time yet. Still, he hated the idea of just lying in bed, knowing he wouldn't be able to get back to sleep, and so John picked himself up out of bed, got showered and dressed quickly, and headed to the dining hall to get some breakfast.

He was surprised to find a young man sitting at one of the tables. He hadn't thought anyone else would be up. He nodded a quick greeting to him and then headed to the kitchen to grab a couple of hard-boiled eggs, some toast and orange juice. Then he came back out and sat down at the table where the young man was seated -- it'd be rude to sit anywhere else.

John felt his fists and jaw clench tightly as he listened to Dean explain what had happened. To have insulted this man's mother -- who, judging by the elder Winchester's relationship with Alice, John assumed was most likely deceased. And to then have hit Dean -- and, from the sound of it, John Winchester as well... John was livid.

He licked his lips, glancing away. "You're probably right about that, at least. He's an absolute coward."

He inhaled deeply and turned to face Dean again. "Again. I am very, very sorry. Your mother -- she... ? Is she deceased?"

Dean looked a little sheepish. "Well, I started the fight after he said what he did, but then I felt pretty bad. Even if he didn't have a bum leg, I've been training under my dad since I was about six. So I might have intimidated him a little bit." He ran his fingers through his hair. He wasn't proud of that. If he could have gone back and done it again, he would have.

"My mother was murdered when I was five." He looked down at his nearly-finished chili fries, and wished he hadn't brought it up.

John nodded, his expression grave.

"I'm sorry."

He clenched and unclenched his fist again, and then picked up his coffee, draining it. He looked down at what was left of his breakfast, which wasn't much. He didn't feel like finishing the rest.

He took another deep breath and pushed his seat back, rising. "It was good meeting you, Dean." He smiled tightly. "I'm sure we'll see each other again at some point, seeing as we can't really go anywhere else, heh. And I'd like it if you introduced me to your father and brother, sometime." He nodded a goodbye and then headed out of the dining hall. It was time to find Greg.

Dean nodded. "I'm sure they'd like that, sir." He nodded his goodbye as well, knowing that he was going to go find House and rip him a new one. Which meant House would get pissed off anew at him and Alice and his father.

Which meant more fighting. He only hoped it wouldn't bite Lisa in the ass.
