Time to meet Zhavah again

Sep 01, 2008 20:22

Two months to go, and my thesis question has changed again - What strategies work most effectively to represent, for a general audience, ways in which role-play fantasy games make possible diverse identity experiences?

Should I be so amazed that my thesis question, originally to do with the history of D&D, then the investment in editions of it, no ( Read more... )

Just two months to go, not long now XD

I love the way you describe Zhavah, and yourself, one entity housing two personalities, it makes it almost seem complicated, yet easy. Is that the definition of a paradox?

The wy you know Zhavah is incredible, you can understand and feel the time you have invested in her to make her real.

I wish you the best of luck with this XD

Hugs sweetheart

Oh, good. I was hoping I could get it in a way that explains the many different facets of 'us' so that people could understand. It is the paradox and dichotomy of the Player Character, indeed. And, does it make me schizophrenic - not only do I hear voices in my head, I have a split personality :P

Yeah, I've come to know her well, and she can still surprise me sometimes. ^^

Thankyou so much, lovely. Here goes nothing, really!

Interesting journey you've been on. D&D was for me, many years of investing in my characters and my friends characters. It's in some ways sad that we drifted apart, but I still retain much of the playfulness of Massy, the tenacity of Feorx, and the charm of Sir Lion, and lo these many years later I still find myself slipping 'behind' a character and watching them deal with a situation when I start to founder.

So, ah, yes, I completely understand. Cool idea for a thesis.

Yeah, that's exactly it. The whole thing has a lot to do with the social, and all that goes with it, but I only wanted to put in that short bit.

They are a fantastic way for dealing with things, aren't they? To just let them take over and watch from the outside.

So very pleased that I was allowed to do this. I couldn't have done straight theory.

This is so interesting! I've never played D&D, but the way you present it intrigues me. ^^

And don't thesis questions do that? I can't say how many times a research thesis has done a complete 180 on me.

I'm very glad that so much of it is getting done. I hope it continues to go well!

-cheers- This means I'm getting it -right- if I can make it interesting to people who don't play.

Tell me about it! I barely remember what it used to be. Its certainly not the same one I got ethics clearance with >.>

Thankyou my petal. I hope so too! Two months and I can sleeeeeep!
