Transformers manages this in several ways to me. One, it personifies many aspects of my childhood, demonstrating how influence by media, pop-culture, and advertising imprinted on my innocent subconscious. The impression it left on me lingers to this day, so I even walk through Target just to see the new toys. The movie itself was almost a painful waiting experience because I was afraid it would tarnish the ideal set by the show during my childhood. How could anything live up to the imagined glitter of the past? How can animated special effects compete with nostalgia and dreams born in the gossamer strands of fledgling stories? I have Cybertron sitting atop my television as I play the Transformers videogame. I know what it means to be influenced.

The nice thing about the prequels being so horrible is that it's lessen Star Wars' hold on my life.
