Lost Again

The teleport ripples across the energy lines in the City, tugging at John's attention, and the psychic presence that arrives lights up the nearer surroundings like a Christmas tree. To the mundane eye, however, the young woman that's now standing in the shallows of the beach is relatively normal-looking. She has short blond hair and big dark eyes ( Read more... )

John won't be the only one to notice, as there are others in the city sensitive to such a pulse of power. Thorn wakes with a cry, throwing off the covers, and looks wildly around the room for a weapon. His bedroom is dark and quiet, however, with nothing ominous to explain the sensation that jolted him awake.

He can feel it, still, and with a few minutes of intense focus he realizes there is some presence on the beach. Sarah and Dr. Schreber, Harley and Rat, and Tom, all live here. Thorn may make a terribly awkward friend, but is a friend to them all and he is protective of them. He dresses quickly, which means work coveralls, and he pulls on the tool belt for good measure. It carries a few trusty items that saw him through Silent Hill once, worlds away.

The pudgy figure slips out of the apartments and onto the boardwalk with surprising stealth, a heavy wrench in hand, determined to keep his new home and his friends safe. He stalks the stranger with menace in mind.

The first person he runs into is a tall figure in a battered tan trenchcoat. John happened to be out with the breadtruck, close enough that a short drive brought him to the boardwalk at the same time as Thorn.

As he looks around the ghost town of empty and boarded-up shops, he spies movement. "Who's there?"

There is definitely an air of menace to the figure lurking in the dark, and John may even make out a raised arm holding some sort of weapon, before it is lowered and the stocky figure of Thorn shuffles sheepishly into the light. "I-I... um..." He blushes, and toes the ground, abruptly embarrassed. To explain why he is lurking about out here would be to reveal his inhuman nature, and he cannot be sure whether or not John already knows.

John has sensed the oddness around Thorn, and is certainly aware of what happened with Ume, but he never expected him to sense something in the City as strongly as John himself. The younger man puts his hands in his pockets and raises an eyebrow. "You're not what I felt. Do you often take walks in the dark, or did you sense it, too?"

He's not sure what Thorn is or isn't capable of.
